Garry Kasparov is asking the question NATO still hasn’t answered: if Western forces could help shoot down Iranian missiles headed for Israel, why not Russian missiles headed for Ukraine?
That question comes as Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan warns that if Russia reaches a survival-level crisis, Moscow could turn to whatever “last resort” it has available.
Meanwhile, Russia launched major attacks on Odesa and Zhytomyr, damaging energy infrastructure, homes, and a German-owned automotive plant employing roughly 3,500 people. Ukraine answered by destroying a long-targeted Russian S-400 system near Gelendzhik and striking additional Russian air-defense and military targets.
President Zelenskyy says every Russian strike will be answered and that the campaign against Russian oil is becoming increasingly painful for Moscow. Magyar then lays out his five conditions for how this war ultimately ends: Russia must lose the financial, military, logistical, manpower, and political capacity to continue.
Where does this escalation lead—and should NATO finally help defend Ukrainian airspace?

On September 25, I examine reports of a large Ukrainian long-range drone operation across Russia, including fires at Lukoil’s Perm oil refinery—some 1,500 kilometers from Ukraine—and strikes on the Iskra electronics plant in Ulyanovsk. Iskra is reportedly tied to semiconductor components for Kh-59 missiles, Pantsir air defenses, radar, and communications equipment. Reported targets also included the Novoshakhtinsk refinery, a synthetic-rubber facility in Voronezh, a logistics site in occupied Luhansk, and two radar stations in Rostov.
I compare this dispersed strike pattern with Russia’s overnight drone and missile attacks on Ukraine, including the deadly strike on a Kyiv residential high-rise and reported casualties in Kharkiv Oblast. I also assess airport disruptions, air-defense pressure, the earlier Kuibyshev refinery damage, and Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian logistics on the Zaporizhzhia front. The strategic issue is whether repeated, clustered drone raids can impose sustained costs on Russia’s oil, defense-industrial, and logistics networks.

Ukraine’s position strengthened—not because of one dramatic battlefield victory, but because several hard truths finally moved into the open.
President Zelenskyy warns that Putin is preparing new missile attacks, additional Russian mobilization, and a possible winter escalation. At the same time, Zelenskyy’s meeting with Raytheon brings Ukraine closer to licensed Patriot interceptor production and a stronger long-term air-defense partnership.
We also examine Gen. Mykhailo Drapatyi’s blunt rejection of Soviet military thinking, the divisions developing around Putin, and the consequences of the Marco Rubio–Sergey Lavrov meeting as questions grow about Russia’s support for Iran.
No hype. No hopium. Just the developments that could make Ukraine stronger for the difficult months ahead.

This is a ton of drones for one night of strikes
Our truck fundraiser is off and rolling! https://car4ukraine.com/campai....gns/preston-stewart-
Overnight Ukraine launched what Russian bloggers are calling the largest drone attack of the war. 1,300 drones targeted the Moscow region and the results are, well, another key refinery is on fire.
Russian sources actually laid out the three phase process for this strike that is already leading to lines at gas stations as the citizens worry about fuel shortages.

Today, there is important news from Europe.
Here, across Nato’s European members, preparations once discussed as contingency planning are becoming increasingly real and visible, as the continent braces for an imminent Russian attack.
Lithuania has developed and announced detailed evacuation arrangements for a military threat or major crisis, including routes from Vilnius toward Poland. As part of this coordinated planning, authorities in Poland are preparing to function as a transit corridor for Baltic civilians. The principle is crucial: evacuation should begin before fighting and shelling reaches populated areas. Once bombardment starts, Lithuanian planners state civilians should use shelters rather than create chaos by attempting mass flight, which in itself is a clear warning and an attempt to prepare everyone to be ready at any moment for war.
Military activity is simultaneously increasing around the Baltic as a response to the rising Russian provocations, as Nato forces are exercising across the region, with Latvia conducting its Namejs two-thousand-twenty-six drills until the eighth of October. At the same time, Belarus started its own mechanized armor exercises near the key Suwalki Gap that connects Poland with the Baltic states, considered a weak point for the defense of the northern Nato states, adding another source of tension.
However, preparations extend beyond moving civilians, as both Russia and Nato are preparing for what happens when soldiers begin returning from battle wounded. Reports citing Russian sources claim Moscow intends to reserve and prepare more than twenty thousand hospital beds in northwestern Russia for military casualties. German security figures have suggested preparations support future escalation, as such steps are not taken simply to intimidate your opponent. They strongly resemble Russia's actions in January two-thousands-twenty-two, when the Russian military started transferring blood and medical supplies towards its border with Ukraine, in preparation for the imminent Russian invasion.
Nato is also preparing for the worst-case scenario, as Germany is conducting its own medical planning, with German authorities assessing hospitals and infrastructure for a major defense emergency while reconsidering Cold War-era underground medical facilities. Bundeswehr analysts have examined how Germany could handle as many as one thousand wounded soldiers arriving daily during a potential war with Russia.
At the same time, warnings from European leaders have become substantially more specific, as Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk told parliament that intelligence assessments indicate Russia could conduct drone or missile attacks against countries supporting Ukraine, including Poland, arguing that such operations could test whether Nato governments genuinely respond collectively under Article Five.
Finnish President Alexander Stubb has urged citizens to be mentally prepared for serious incidents, including sabotage and drone activity, while European intelligence officials are publicly discussing possibilities ranging from escalating sabotage to military provocations, as European concern increasingly rises over deliberate Russian hybrid ambiguity: sabotage, GPS interference, cyberattacks, or drones whose origin and intention remain uncertain long enough to complicate Nato’s response.
That represents the major change, as until recently, much European discussion concerned what governments should eventually prepare for. Now evacuation corridors are being planned, medical capacity assessed, infrastructure hardened, and military exercises expanded while political leaders publicly prepare populations for possible confrontation. These measures demonstrate that governments increasingly consider escalation serious enough to require practical preparation rather than warnings alone, with a Nato-Russia war perhaps merely days or weeks away.
Overall, as Russian military activity, sabotage, and airspace incidents accumulate around Nato’s European members, every new incident carries greater potential for miscalculation. The danger is also the shrinking margin for error, as those caught unprepared may not have the time to catch up with the realities of the modern battlefield. Europe is preparing because a confrontation that once appeared remote is increasingly being treated as a real threat that governments cannot afford to ignore.
David Hookstead talks about NATO fighter jets scrambling to intercept Russian planes, there are more sabotage operations, troops are mobilizing and a mysterious Russian military message was picked up.

Chicago — the heart of the Midwest — is sinking deeper into crisis. In this 2026 episode of US HOMELESS STORIES, we expose how freezing temperatures, fentanyl addiction, and economic collapse have left thousands stranded on the streets with no way out.
From the icy underpasses of downtown to the tent cities buried in snow, this documentary captures the brutal truth of life in one of America’s coldest cities. Through emotional interviews and raw street footage, we reveal how families, veterans, and the working poor are trapped between addiction, poverty, and a system that no longer works. The city’s frozen streets have become a reflection of a nation growing colder to its most vulnerable.
