286. Frozen Night in Kensington: Where Warmth is a Luxury for the Homeless - Homeless in America

Kensington, Philadelphia, has become one of the most painful symbols of the homeless in America. Tents on sidewalks, people sleeping in doorways, and lives torn apart by addiction show how severe the homeless crisis has become.

In this documentary, we follow people living on the edge of survival in the middle of a growing fentanyl crisis. Fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid, has spread through Kensington like a fire, fueling overdoses, violence, and fear. Every corner carries a story: a lost job, a medical bill, a broken family, and a system that failed to catch people before they hit the streets.

Through raw, honest voices from Kensington’s broken streets, this film shows what homelessness really looks like in America today – not as statistics, but as human beings fighting cold nights, hunger, trauma, and stigma. It asks a simple but urgent question: how many more lives have to disappear before we truly confront the homeless crisis and fentanyl crisis in America?

If this documentary opened your eyes to what is happening in Kensington and beyond, please consider liking, sharing, and leaving a comment. Every view and every share helps these stories be seen and heard.

Kazakhstan’s president challenged Vladimir Putin to freeze the war in Ukraine—then abruptly backed away after the Kremlin responded. That reversal reveals how Moscow handles pressure from even its closest partners.

In this update, Greg examines Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s face-to-face message to Putin, Alexander Dugin’s admission that anxiety and discontent are growing inside Russia, and the Kremlin’s refusal to consider freezing the war.

We also break down Ukraine’s long-range strikes against Russian military, industrial and fuel targets—including the Engels air base, Kirov, Tyumen, Rostov-on-Don and vessels carrying military cargo between Iran and Russia.

Plus: the Trump administration’s warning to Kyiv over tanker strikes, threats to Kazakhstan’s oil exports, and Russia’s deadly attacks on gas stations, Nova Poshta workers and civilian infrastructure across Ukraine.

Iran has unleashed a terrifying campaign of revenge attacks across the UK and Europe – including bombings, cyber attacks and knife rampages.

The mullah regime is suspected to have orchestrated the alleged RAF Fairford terrorist plot – as Tehran puts Britain squarely in its crosshairs.

The latest alleged terror attack is another indication Iran has already planted sleeper cells in the UK, security expert Will Geddes said.

He told The Sun: “Iran has created and is developing sleeper cells in the United Kingdom, as well as in other countries that they are opposed to.”

US intelligence has warned several European governments that Russia may be preparing a drone operation targeting Spain, France, or Italy. The suspected plan involves concealing Gerbera drones inside containers aboard merchant ships and launching them from the sea. The threat is particularly serious because these countries are far beyond the range of drones launched from Russian territory. Merchant ships could provide Russia with covert, mobile launch platforms much closer to southern Europe, allowing drones to approach targets from unexpected directions, which Nato countries didn’t expect any attacks from. This could bring normally distant European targets within range without requiring Russia to establish a permanent military base abroad.

To conduct these strikes, Russia would use Gerbera drones that can fly around six hundred kilometres and carry a five kilogram explosive payload. These drones could be launched against airports, military facilities, or critical infrastructure near the coast. Because of the relatively small payload, the drones wouldn’t cause widespread destruction, but it is more than enough to damage key parts of Nato’s infrastructure and paralyze them. A ship positioned several hundred kilometres offshore could launch the drones without entering a Nato country’s territorial waters, making preparations for the attack more difficult to detect.

Russia’s broader objective is not to start a full scale war with Nato, but to test how the alliance would respond to a limited attack while exploiting existing divisions within Europe. A carefully controlled drone operation could create public fear and expose weaknesses in southern Europe’s air defenses. Depending on its scale, an attack could force Nato members to move additional air defense systems towards southern Europe, leaving fewer systems and interceptors available for the eastern flank and Ukraine. Launching the drones from a civilian ship would also make it harder to prove that Russia ordered the attack, creating uncertainty over how Nato should respond. Moscow could use this political uncertainty surrounding such an attack to test Nato’s willingness to invoke Article five, the collective defense clause, and assess how united European governments would remain under pressure.

This type of drone attack would cause major problems for Nato because finding one armed vessel among three thousand regular merchant ships that sail through the Mediterranean Sea every day would be almost impossible. This tactic would also give Russia plausible deniability, because it could deny controlling the ship after an attack, while Western investigators would try to trace the vessel and its ownership. A foreign flagged vessel, several companies involved in its ownership, and cargo moved through different ports could make the operation more difficult to trace back to Russia. Nato would therefore need strong evidence before seizing the vessel or responding against Russia, as its members could not simply search every suspicious merchant ship travelling through international waters. Detecting the operation beforehand would require Nato to track suspicious cargo, port visits, and changes in ship ownership across several countries. Russia could move the drones through companies or intermediaries in third countries before loading them onto civilian ships, greatly expanding the number of routes Nato would need to monitor.

Overall, turning merchant ships into mobile launch platforms would allow Russia to threaten southern Europe without building permanent bases or openly deploying military forces abroad. Nato would then have to connect naval surveillance, port inspections, coastal security, and air defense because stopping these attacks would begin long before the drones entered European airspace. However, stricter inspections of suspicious vessels could slow commercial traffic and create disputes with neutral countries, meaning Moscow could cause economic and political pressure even if only a few drones were launched. The lasting effect would be to erase the old division between military threats in eastern Europe and civilian shipping routes in the south, forcing Nato to defend both at the same time.

Kyrylo Budanov says Russia’s war is strategically “at a dead end”—but Putin is preparing new strikes and possible mobilization as Ukraine races to strengthen its defenses before winter.

Greg breaks down Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s warning about Russia’s intentions, Mykhailo Podolyak’s ceasefire proposal, and the admission that a Patriot production agreement will not protect Ukraine this winter. Also covered: major Ukrainian government changes, pressure on global Patriot supplies, Russia’s attacks on fuel infrastructure, the heartbreaking deaths of a Ukrainian rescuer and his eight-year-old son, and Ukraine’s continuing campaign against Wildberries warehouses.

Does Russia still believe it can win militarily—or is Budanov right that Putin has reached a strategic dead end?

Thank You for Standing With Ukraine

A Ukrainian volunteer says the FSB used his own children to pressure him for information—and that he ultimately went to Russia rather than betray people in Ukraine or abandon his son. In this update, I share the now-confirmed story of Mykhailo Puryuchov and the extraordinary appeal he made publicly before placing himself in Russian hands.

We also have major political developments in Kyiv as Khamara and Andrii Sybiha move toward confirmation votes, plus new evidence from the Flamingo strike on Russia’s Progress Rocket Center. The damage could have consequences for Soyuz-2 production and Russia’s effort to deploy its own Starlink-style satellite network.

Russia is also dealing with fuel restrictions across multiple regions, while questions remain over possible Witkoff and Kushner travel to Kyiv or Moscow. And Ukraine is watching another potentially dangerous development: reconnaissance drones over western Ukraine, tactical aviation movements, loaded Kalibr missiles, and other indicators Greg believes could point toward preparations for another large Russian strike.

One year after Lukashenko predicted Russia would grind through Ukraine’s defenses, Ukraine is still fighting—but its air-defense crisis is becoming critical.

President Zelenskyy is demanding urgent political decisions to secure PAC-2 and PAC-3 Patriot interceptors. Donald Trump says America needs those missiles too, while Fedorov warns that Russia is producing missiles far faster than Ukraine is receiving the weapons needed to stop them.

This update examines the global Patriot shortage, dangerously limited NATO and European stockpiles, Trump’s renewed “not our war” position, and what continued Russian ballistic strikes could mean for Ukraine.

What should the United States, Europe, and the G7 do now? Share your thoughts below—and please like, subscribe, and share this update.

Lyrics:
It’s so silly of me to act like I don’t need you bad
When all, all I can think about is us since I seen you last I know I didn't have to walk away
All I had to do was ask for space
I’m telling you, be on your way
When I told you to fall back

So can you come pick up your clothes I have them folded Meet me at the door while it’s still open
I know it’s getting cold out, but it’s not frozen
So come pick up your clothes I have them folded

I’ll let your body decide if this is good enough for you Already folding it for you
Already folding it for you
I’ll let your body decide if this is good enough for you Already folding it for you
Already folded up for you

No matter what you do to switch the story up, I know I made my mark And I would still choose you through it all
That’s the crazy part (crazy part)
I don't need no more empty promises
Promise me that you got it
I don't need roses
Just need some flowers from my garden
Can’t you go back to how you loved on me when you started?
I’ll be here begging for ya
You should be giving me love all damn day
‘Til the day is done
So if you wanna go that way, I’ll be waiting on

For you to come pick up your clothes I have them folded Meet me at the door while it’s still open
I know it’s getting cold out, but it’s not frozen
So come pick up your clothes I have them folded
So come pick up your clothes I have them folded
Meet me at the door while it’s still open
I know it’s getting cold out, but tell me that it’s not frozen So come pick up your clothes I have them folded

I’ll let your body decide if this is good enough for you Already folded it for you
Already folding up for

It doesn’t really need an explanation—you know exactly what Kehlani means when she sings. Without sugarcoating or softening a word, the Bay Area-born two-time GRAMMY® Award-nominated multiplatinum songstress will drop a hard truth in one breath and flip a middle finger in the next. She may extend a seductive invitation or an empathetic plea before leaving you in your thoughts and feelings. Either way, she finds a way to consistently relate without filter. With each move, she strengthens this connection to listeners everywhere. Kehlani’s 2015 breakout mixtape You Should Be Here received a 2016 GRAMMY® Award nod in the category of “Best Urban Contemporary Album.” On its heels, her 2017 full-length debut SweetSexySavage bowed at #3 on the Billboard Top 200 and eventually went gold. Between selling out dates on the SweetSexySavage Tour, the record closed out the year on Pitchfork’s “The 50 Best Albums of 2017” and Rolling Stone’s “20 Best R&B Albums of 2017.”

Along the way, she contributed to Suicide Squad: The Album and The Fate of the Furious: The Album and guested on Cardi B’s double-platinum “Ring,” Kyle’s platinum “PLAYINWITME,” and Justin Bieber’s “Get Me,” to name a few. By 2020, she picked up three gold solo singles—"You Should Be Here,” “Honey,” and “Distraction,” for which she received her second GRAMMY® nomination for Best R&B performance. In addition, four platinum singles—“Gangsta,” “The Way” [feat. Chance the Rapper], “CRZY,” and “Nights Like This” [feat. Ty Dolla $ign] and streams in the billions. Not to mention, Billboard Women In Music honored her with the “Rule Breaker Award” as she gathered nominations at the Soul Train Awards and the American Music Awards. Plus, she made show-stopping appearances at Voodoo Music + More, Coachella, and beyond. In the aftermath of 2019’s chart-topping While We Wait mixtape, everything changed. She became a mom. As such, parenthood left an indelible imprint on her second full-length, It Was Good Until It Wasn’t. Out May 8th, It Was Good Until It Wasn’t is described by Kehlani as her most mature body of work, featuring songs based on her own real experiences including recently released “Toxic” and “Everybody Business.” In the end, you’ll know exactly what’s on Kehlani’s mind, heart, and soul on It Was Good Until It Wasn’t.
