They Wanted Total Control. They Created Hell
They wanted total control. They created hell.
In this conversation, Professor Gerdes and I step back from the daily headlines and talk about the deeper pattern behind authoritarian power. Why do leaders like Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, Kim Jong Un — and yes, the authoritarian impulses we are now watching in American politics — always seem to create fear, lies, paranoia, and suffering?
Authoritarianism promises strength. But it strips away truth, freedom, accountability, honest advice, human dignity, and moral restraint. It surrounds leaders with yes-men. It punishes dissent. It turns institutions into tools of loyalty. And eventually, it traps both the leader and the people inside a prison of their own making.
This is not just political analysis. It is moral analysis. Spiritual analysis. A warning.
Once you see the pattern, you cannot unsee it.
In this video, we discuss:
Why authoritarian leaders reject restraint
How yes-men and loyalty tests destroy reality
Why fear becomes the system
How Putin, Xi, Kim Jong Un, and Trump fit into the broader authoritarian pattern
Why authoritarianism can be described as hell in a moral and theological sense
Why truth, accountability, and human dignity are the only way out
