Russia’s latest strikes on Ukraine killed 16 people and wounded nearly 50, while President Zelenskyy says Ukraine will answer with a justified and decisive response. In this update, I break down what happened, why Ukraine’s current long-range operations are not yet the promised retaliation, and why the continuing shortage of Patriot interceptors remains so dangerous.

We also look at a major new threat from North Korea: the KN-30 heavy ballistic missile, which Ukrainian defense intelligence reports can carry a warhead of up to 2.5 tons and reach roughly 900 kilometers. I also examine Russia’s missile stockpiles and production as Ukraine faces the continuing challenge of defending its cities from ballistic attacks.

Then we go inside Russia itself. Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak openly describes a “tense” second phase in Russia’s gasoline market, including export restrictions, fuel imports, refinery problems, and authorization for lower-grade fuel. Russian television also delivers another revealing moment as Popov describes personally witnessing three Ukrainian strikes while traveling through Crimea.

Ukraine needs air defense, but the pressure Ukraine is applying against Russia is also producing increasingly visible consequences. We look at both sides of that reality—and what it could mean next.

So Ukraine is out of Patriot missile interceptors and Russia is ramping up missile production. That’s a problem, to say the least and I don’t think it’s a stretch to say this is the biggest issue facing Ukraine today.

This dynamic isn’t anything new and overnight we saw again how Russian missiles are largely unchallenged in the Ukrainian skies.

Iran meanwhile is taking a different approach threatening to go on the offensive if the blockade isn’t lifted soon with one analyst saying “There is also a widespread view in Iran that the main war has not yet begun.”

Ukraine has launched a growing campaign against Crimea’s critical infrastructure, striking power and water facilities while putting increasing pressure on the peninsula’s energy and logistics networks. A Ukrainian volunteer says the FSB used his own children to pressure him for information—and that he ultimately went to Russia rather than betray people in Ukraine or abandon his son. In this update, I share the now-confirmed story of Mykhailo Puryuchov and the extraordinary appeal he made publicly before placing himself in Russian hands.

We also have major political developments in Kyiv as Khamara and Andrii Sybiha move toward confirmation votes, plus new evidence from the Flamingo strike on Russia’s Progress Rocket Center. The damage could have consequences for Soyuz-2 production and Russia’s effort to deploy its own Starlink-style satellite network.

Russia is also dealing with fuel restrictions across multiple regions, while questions remain over possible Witkoff and Kushner travel to Kyiv or Moscow. And Ukraine is watching another potentially dangerous development: reconnaissance drones over western Ukraine, tactical aviation movements, loaded Kalibr missiles, and other indicators Greg believes could point toward preparations for another large Russian strike.

This morning, NATO has deployed large aircraft forces around Putin’s Kaliningrad region next to the Polish border in what appears to be a sudden and urgent show-of-force. We are currently monitoring ongoing developments. In the meantime, NATO has also deployed several aircraft toward Northern Norway as it’s believed that Russian submarines are on the move out of Murmansk for some unknown reason. Meanwhile, Moscow came under the largest drone attack that it’s experienced in the last two years over the past 24 hours, with more than 600 UAVs targeted the capital as explosions rang out across the area. Meanwhile, Dubai has come under a missile attack from Iran as warnings were sent out to civilians to seek shelter, which marks the first Iranian attack on Dubai in Months.
