Ukraine is mourning after a devastating day of Russian strikes. In Kryvyi Rih, the confirmed toll from the attack on a shopping mall rose to 15 killed and 130 injured, including 23 children. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack and said Ukraine will respond.
The violence extended beyond Kryvyi Rih. A drone struck a minibus in Zaporizhzhia, while a Shahed attack on a multipurpose building in Tokarivka in the Mykolaiv region killed four people, including three boys. Against that backdrop, Ukraine also revealed the first batch of the Alexa Spatium interceptor drone—a mobile, turbojet-powered system designed to counter Russian kamikaze and Shahed-type drones and capable of returning for reuse if an interception is unsuccessful.
The video also examines new signs of pressure inside Russia: testimony that two military-age men were prevented from leaving the country despite having valid documents, and a Russian frontline soldier describing the horror of missions where five men are sent out and only one returns. These accounts raise serious questions about Russian casualties, manpower, and the possibility of future mobilization.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has issued one of Ukraine’s most direct warnings yet about the growing danger inside Russian airspace: the “safe days for Russia’s skies are over.” Zelenskyy says Ukraine is not threatening civilian aviation, but warns that increasing Ukrainian drone and missile operations against Russian military targets and the war economy are making Russian airspace increasingly unsafe.
The warning comes alongside a broader escalation in rhetoric between Kyiv and Moscow. Zelenskyy said the United States asked Ukraine to refrain from strikes on Moscow and St. Petersburg from August 25–27, a request Ukraine complied with while Russian attacks continued. Kyrylo Budanov reinforced Zelenskyy’s warning, saying Ukraine will deliver a harsh and proportionate response and that international airlines, insurers, and partners should recognize the new reality in Russian airspace.
Vladimir Putin responded by calling Zelenskyy’s warning a declaration of “state terrorism” and said Russia would respond if a tragedy occurred. Putin also claimed Ukrainian attacks had targeted three Russian nuclear power plants and announced orders for massive strikes against Ukraine’s energy facilities and infrastructure. A Ukrainian journalist got the chance to ask President Donald Trump three direct questions while President Zelenskyy and senior U.S. officials were sitting in the room: What happens with the Lindsey Graham sanctions bill? Will Trump press China? And will the United States move forward on possible Patriot missile production in Ukraine?
Trump said the sanctions legislation is being studied, indicated China would likely come up in discussions, and said talks about Patriot production were continuing. The timing matters because Dmitry Peskov responded the following morning with Moscow’s own message on Ukraine, negotiations, and the possibility of future U.S.-Russia meetings.
In this update, I walk through those exchanges in sequence and examine how the answers from Washington were followed by the Kremlin’s public position.
